The #mhsm topic for 4/24 is Parenting with mental illness with @SimpLee_Serene
There is a lot of misconceptions about being a parent with a mental illness and taking care of your children. There are people who believe that the children should be taken away because the parent can’t possibly take care of them because they have a mental illness. They also worry about how the mental illness effects the upbringing and psyche of the children.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Parents with mental illness are perfectly capable of taking care of their children. Like any chronic illness, they have to educate everyone in the household about the illness and also plan for the appropriate supports when they are needed.
Come share your thoughts and experiences with others as we discuss the topic. Let’s talk about it!
We meet Tuesdays, 9 pm eastern daylight saving time U.S. other time zones
